Elora Valdez has become a phenomenon in San Antonio and the surrounding areas. Still, people often do a double take when they hear her. Why? More than likely because at some point it dawns on them that this is a very young lady. That must be bittersweet. At 13 years of age, she probably has to fight the cute factor to get some of the audience out there to take her seriously as an artist.
But here's the thing- the novelty of her age (and the ages of her band) aside, what first and foremost shines through clearly is the pure happiness that comes with performance for her...which when tied in with her youthfulness is just so refreshing. In other words, she's not jaded.
She sings because it's fun and because she wants to. Many musicians lose that. She thus serves as a reminder of what performance is truly about. Expression, and joy. Walking on to a stage and feeling free.
Thanks for the reminder, Elora.
